Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Stockton, CA - The Quakes offense battled in a game that remained scoreless until the bottom of the 8th inning. Ports catcher Collin Theroux drove in the lone run of the game on a sacrifice fly, as the Quakes dropped game two of the three-game series 1-0.
Quakes' starting pitcher Dean Kremer set the early tone, making his second start of the season. The Stockton, CA native sailed through five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out six.
Rancho reliever Isaac Anderson allowed Luke Persico to reach on a leadoff single to begin the eighth inning. With Andrew Istler taking over out of the bullpen, a wild pitch pushed Persico to third. Persico was then brought home on the Theroux sacrifice fly and Anderson (0-2) was hit with the loss.
Rancho Cucamonga's best chance at plating a run came in the fourth inning. A pair of one out singles by Rylan Bannon and Cody Thomas and a walk for Donovan Casey loaded the bases for Ibandel Isabel. Isabel would pop out on the infield and with two outs, Hamlet Marte struck out to strand the bases loaded.
Trailing 1-0 in the ninth inning, the Quakes were retired in order by Stockton Closer Miguel Romero, who earned his second save of the season.
Stockton, which held the Quakes to just four hits on the day, got four no-hit innings from reliever Brendan Butler (1-0), who notched the win to give the Ports five straight victories.
Wednesday, the Quakes (2-4) send RHP Andrew Sopko (1-0, 1.80 ERA) to the hill to face Stockton's Jesus Luzardo (0-1, 1.93 ERA) in the final game of the series and the final game of the seven-game road trip to start the season.
On Thursday night, the Quakes will play at LoanMart Field for the first time in 2018, as they host the Inland Empire 66ers in the 2018 Home Opener.
