Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA - The Inland Empire 66ers fell to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 5-3 on Monday at San Manuel Stadium and dropped the series 3-games-to-1. The Quakes improved to 9-1 against the 66ers on the season.
The Quakes got an RBI double in the third from Tim Locastro and then homers from Joey Curletta and Pin-Chieh Chen in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead against Sixers' starter Justin Anderson (1-5). It was Curletta's fourth of the year and second of the series; Chen's dinger was his first homer of the year.
The Sixers answered in the bottom of the fourth against Rancho starter Yaisel Sierra (2-1). Michael Strentz smashed a ball off the scoreboard in right-center for his second homer in as many days. He was followed by Wade Wass who singled and then scored on Zach Houchin's first triple of the year. Zach Welz then singled in Houchins and Inland Empire had cut the deficit to 4-3.
The Quakes added an insurance run in the seventh. Johan Mieses had three hits including one of Rancho Cucamonga's (26-12) four doubles. Taylor Ward had three hits for the Inland Empire (11-27) while Wass and Hutton Moyer had two apiece in the losing effort. Tim Arakawa's California League-best 21-game hit-streak was halted as the Honolulu, HI native went 0-5. It was the longest hit-streak for Inland Empire since CJ Cron hit safely in 20 consecutive games in 2012.
The 66ers open a series at Lancaster on Tuesday at 6:35 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
