Quakes Take Three of Four from Sixers with 5-3 Win

San Bernardino, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes grinded out another series win, taking three of four from Inland Empire, winning on Monday, 5-2.

The Quakes have now won nine of their last ten series and all five on the road this year.

Rancho struck first in the third inning. With two out, the Quakes got back-to-back doubles from Johan Mieses and Tim Locastro, with Locastro knocking in Mieses to make it 1-0.

The Quakes scored three fourth-inning runs to go ahead 4-0. With one out, Joey Curletta hit his second solo home run in as many days, his fourth of the season, to make it 2-0. Michael Ahmed followed with a double, and Pin-Chieh Chen clubbed his first home run of the season, a two-run shot, to put Rancho Cucamonga in front 4-0..

Inland Empire came back against Quakes' starter Yaisel Sierra in the bottom of the fourth. Michael Strentz hit his second home run of the series, a solo shot to make it 4-1. After Wade Wass singled, Zach Houchins tripled him in to make it a 4-2 contest. Zach Welz singled home Houchins to bring the 66ers to within one run, 4-3 after four innings of play.

The Quakes added an insurance run in the seventh inning. Mieses led off with a single and ended up scoring on a single from major league rehabber, Alex Guerrero, making it a 5-3 game to round out the scoring.

Sierra (2-1) picked up the win for Rancho Cucamonga, as the Quakes improve to 26-12 overall with Monday's win. Sierra pitched six innings, and allowed three runs on eight hits. He struck out eight, and it was his first game of the season in which he didn't walk a hitter.

Joe Broussard followed Sierra's strong outing by pitching two scoreless innings, while Scott Griggs worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his sixth save of the year.

Justin Anderson (1-5) took the loss for Inland Empire, who spiral to an 11-27 record after Monday's loss. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits in five innings of work.

On Tuesday, Rancho will head to Lake Elsinore to open a three-game series against the Storm. Josh Sborz (3-2) will take on Chris Huffman (4-1), with first pitch scheduled for 6:00pm.

On Friday night, Hyun-Jin Ryu is scheduled to pitch, as the Dodgers' lefty will make his second rehab start with the Quakes.
