Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA-- After giving up 11 runs on Wednesday night, the Quakes' pitching staff bounced back nicely, helping Rancho end their season-high four-game losing streak in a 3-1 victory over the Inland Empire 66ers at LoanMart Field.

Josh Sborz, Alex Burgos and Jeff Malm combined to scatter seven hits, allowing just a single run, as the Quakes snapped a three-game head-to-head losing streak against Inland Empire and moved back over the .500 mark in the second half.

Michael Ahmed homered for the tenth time this year and Erick Mejia continued his torrid hitting, extending his hitting streak to eight straight games.

Rancho grabbed the early lead in the first, as Mejia singled and moved to third on a double by Tim Locastro. Edwin Rios followed with a sac fly to make it 1-0, giving him 30 RBIs in 31 games as a Quake.

Sborz gave up his one and only run in the fourth, as Roberto Baldoquin brought home the 66ers' only run of the game with an RBI groundout, temporarily tying the game at 1-1.

Rancho answered immediately in the bottom of the inning against Inland Empire starter Jared Ruxer (0-2) as Rios reached on an error, then scored on Johan Mieses' RBI double, giving the Quakes the lead for good at 2-1.

Michael Ahmed tacked on a solo shot in the seventh, upping Rancho's lead to 3-1.

Sborz gave way to Burgos (2-0) in the fifth, who came on and pitched three scoreless innings to net the win.

Jeff Malm fired two scoreless innings to finish it off, giving Malm his third save of the year.

The Quakes (11-10, 53-38) and Sixers will match up in the rubber-game of the three-game series on Friday, as Grant Holmes (7-3) will take on Jake Jewell (1-7) at 7:05pm.
