Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Adelanto, CA - One night after losing the tie-breaking game to decide the First Half South Division Pennant, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes took a step towards making a second-half run, coming from behind to defeat the High Desert Mavericks, 5-2 at Mavericks Stadium.
A four-run eighth sent the Quakes to just their second win of the second half on Tuesday night, as Leon Landry's go-ahead eighth-inning single against Stephen Kohlscheen (0-1) put the Quakes ahead to stay.
Trailing 2-1, Rancho got things going with one out, as Landry singled home Alexis Aguilar and Scott Wingo, putting them ahead 3-2. After Joc Pederson singled, the Mavs elected to intentionally walk C.J. Retherford, loading the bases for Chris O'Brien. O'Brien responded with a two-run single, giving Rancho some cushion at 5-2.
Jordan Roberts (4-0), who pitched two perfect innings on the night, worked a 1-2-3 eighth, then turned it over to Eric Eadington in the ninth, who picked up his tenth save in 11 chances this year, securing the victory.
Quakes' starter JonMichael Redding gave up just two runs on six hits over six-plus innings in the no-decision.
Rancho (2-4, 38-36) and High Desert fire it up in the rubber game of the three-game set on Wednesday night, as Brandon Martinez (2-1) will take on Mavs' lefty Jimmy Gillheeney (7-2) at 7:05pm.
On Sunday, July 1st, the Quakes return to The Epicenter for a Valencia Commons Dodgers' Fun in the Sunday, featuring former Dodger great "Sweet" Lou Johnson. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes !
