Quad City Riverhawks News Release
Quad Cities, IL. The ABA Quad Cities basketball team held its second tryout camp of the season last week in Iowa City where players drove as far from Chicago, Minnesota and Nebraska to earn a Vet Camp spot and impress VP of Basketball Operations/Assistant Coach Acie Earl and Consultant Dorian Earl.
Clearly, Glen Worley, a former Iowa City prep Player of the Year and former Iowa Hawkeye in the early 2000's era stood out. Worley, a 6'8" small/power forward played in the ABA last year for Coach Earl's former team, the Tijuana Dragones, plus overseas stints in Ireland and in the WBA. Worley earned his contract by playing like a true pro winning most of the 1 on 1 matches all day.
Quad Cities also signed a good local Quad Cities street ball and rec league legend. John Banks, a long, tall 6'7 power forward was a former Rock Island prep star and attended Upper Iowa College-DII. Banks also played for the pro Waterloo team. He earned his Vet camp slot by using his quick spins, soft touch and blocking many shots on defense.
Consultant Dorian Earl was most impressed with Wade Pierce. Pierce, another long player at 6'5 small forward, dazzled the Earl brothers to sign him for his athletic abilityh to go either right or left on offense and repeatedly stop other players on defense at any position. Pierce attended a small DIII school, St. Olaf in Minnesota.
The best guard in camp was hands down Wesley Kitt. At a strong 6'0 build and true point guard skills, he earned his contract by displaying constant unselfishness, impeccable decision making and great on the ball defense. Kitt attended Junior College in Nebraska.
These four players will be added to Quad Cities previous signings of Ameer Watts, a 6'0 shooting guard and 5'7 Orlando Gulley, point guard to push the Qud Cities vet camp roster to six with players reporting October 30th. Coach Earl expects to sign at least 12 more players with some coming from its next tryout camps on Sep 9 in Rockford, IL at Patriot Gateway Center, 615 S. 5th Street, 12-4pm. The last tryout camp will be Saturday, Sep 23, 12-4pm at MaryCrest College in Davenport IA. Cost is $150 for walkins, $100 for pre-registration.
