September 6, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Miami Tropics News Release

MIAMI, Fla., September 5, 2006 - Aspiring professional basketball players can participate in the first open tryouts for The Miami Tropics American Basketball Association (ABA) team this Friday, September 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday, September 10 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Team President Art Alvarez announced that the venue changed from Miami to the Sunset Lakes Community Center in Miramar, in order to accommodate players in both Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

The fee for the event is $125 for pre-registered players and $150 for walk-ups on the morning of the tryout, and must be paid by cash or money order. Players can pre-register by contacting the Miami Tropics at miamitropics2004@yahoo.com or customerservice@galaxyofstarsbasketball.com. All applicants should provide the team with their name, address, contact number, height, weight and experience, and will be asked to sign a liability waiver before competing.

Sunset Lakes Community Center is located at 2801 SW 186th Avenue in Miramar. The venue's athletic coordinator, John Kee, announced that the Center will also serve as the practice facility for the Tropics during the 2006-07 season.

"We want to reach out to the entire South Florida Community," says Alvarez. "Moving the workouts to Sunset Lakes gives players from Broward, as well as Miami-Dade an equal chance to show their skills. We want to give anyone with a dream to play professional basketball a chance to fulfill it by working out for the Tropics."

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
