Charlottetown Islanders News Release

The Charlottetown Islanders are proud to host the next instalment of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) 50th Anniversary Tour on Wednesday, March 13th as they take on the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at 7:00pm at the Eastlink Centre.

The QMJHL 50th Anniversary Tour has been a season-long celebration of half a century of major junior hockey in the Eastern Canadian region, culminating with the league hosting this year's CHL Kia Memorial Cup in Halifax, Nova Scotia. As has been the case at each stop of the tour, the Memorial Cup and President's Cup will be on display at the Eastlink Centre that evening, along with a number of spots across the city throughout the day.

The day will begin at 9:00am with a visit to the Pediatric Clinic at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Islander players will be making visits to children in the hospital and bringing two of junior hockey's biggest trophies with them.

At 10:40, the players and trophies will make their way to West Kent Elementary for a visit with and presentation to their students. With this week being French Week in PEI schools, the players will be discussing the importance that the French language has had in their lives, both in and away from the rink.

From there, the trophies will make their way to the CIBC on the corner of Queen & Grafton to be put on display with one of the CHL's premiere sponsors at 12:00 noon. The trophies will be open to the public for pictures and viewing until 1:30pm.

From there, the trophies will head back to the rink in preparation for the festivities that night during the game. At 5:30 there will be a private reception at the Eastlink Centre for dignitaries and important figures in the history of the PEI Rocket and Charlottetown Islanders.

At 6:00pm, join us in the Eastlink Centre concourse as we host a public question period with QMJHL Commissioner Gilles Courteau and Charlottetown Islanders president of operations Craig Foster. The hotstove will be hosted by none other than George Matthews.

Finally, the game between the Islanders and 2018 Memorial Cup Champions Acadie-Bathurst Titan will take place at 7:00pm. There will be a special pre-game ceremony honouring the QMJHL, the history of the league, and the history of major junior hockey on Prince Edward Island.

The Charlottetown Islanders and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League are thrilled to be organizing a fantastic day of celebrating 50 years of elite level hockey in the region.
