Round Rock Express News Release

Roundrockexpress.com took a minute to chat with second baseman and the Texas League's fourth leading hitter, Chris Burke. Q: You've raised you batting average from the .260s to the .360s. Is there anything you can point to that you've done different or improved on?

A: There have been a lot of things. First, I've really concentrated on my strike zone discipline. I'm making sure I swing at more good pitches and give myself the chance to get better contact. I've also changed by mechanics a bit. I've lessened my leg kick, so that's helped.

Q: You played shortstop and second base last year, although you stayed completely at second this year. Are you more comfortable there?

A: They (the Astros organization) want me to play both, so I'm preparing myself for both. I'd like to think I'm versatile enough to play anywhere. I am very comfortable at second though.

Q: Should you someday get a call up to the Majors, how will you celebrate?

A: I've had tremendous family support from not only my immediate family, but also my extended family. I would want them all to be involved in the moment. If I were ever to make the big leagues, I'd like to have a private moment with all of them.

Q: Speaking of family, you do know tomorrow's Mother's Day.

A: Yes, yes I do.

Q: So, what are you doing for you mother?

A: I'm sending a floral arrangement to her. My dad's in town and actually left my mom behind, so I'm going to give her a call and send her a card. I try to remind her what she means to me everyday, but tomorrow is extra special.

Q: You went to the University of Tennessee. Does this mean you know the words to "Rocky Top?"

A: If you started with the music I might. We usually just focused on the refrain. If you stick with that, I'll be ok. They say that if you got to school there, you'll hear it a million times.

Q: So, who's the bigger Tennessee icon, you or Peyton Manning?

A: Peyton, by far. There's been nobody like him. Something like a third of the male babies born in Tennessee when he was there were named Peyton. He's a great roll model though, especially athletes. He's someone you should look at when you're a professional athlete.

Q: Did you two ever cross paths?

A: Yeah, we've met a few times. He's left me tickets to Colts games a few times. He's been a great supporter of the University.
