Round Rock Express News Release

Saturday was a night of change for the Round Rock Express. It started from the moment they stepped on the field and lasted until the final out. Under new Alcoa-Rockdale Camouflage Hats – handed out to fans before the game – the Express plated the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to down the El Paso Diablos, 2-1, in front of a season high 11,067 at The Dell Diamond.

After Craig Ansman doubled home the tying run in the seventh, Round Rock was in danger of dropping yet another game in the late innings. However, a peculiar play in the eighth changed that. With runners on first and third, Tommy Whiteman lined a shot down the right field line that Nate Murphy made a remarkable diving out of. He actually turned the catch into a double play, but Fehlandt Lentini was able to score on a very complicated sacrifice fly.

Mike Gallo (1-1) got the win in relief of Chad Qualls, who pitched well enough to win. He went 7 2/3 innings and gave up only one run on four hits. Travis Wade pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save.

Billy White (0-1) got the loss.

Not to be forgotten were the stylish caps the Express sported. While their future use will be evaluated, their good luck was not lost on manager Jackie Moore.

"How about those camoflouge hats," Moore said. "I hope those caps see a little more action and they start to stink real bad."
