Tucson Sidewinders News Release
The Sidewinders' 9th inning comeback was not enough Friday as they lost to the Albuquerque Isotopes 4-2. Pitchers from both clubs were able to pitch effectively despite a strong wind blowing out to right. Tucson starter Chris Cervantes gave up 4 runs (3 earned) in 5 2/3 solid innings of work but the Sidewinders were unable to score off of Isotopes starter Doug Bochtler. They did however touch reliever Oswaldo Mairena for a run in the 7th to pull within three.
In the 9th with a score of 4-1 Albuquerque, the Sidewinders rallied with a lead off single by Doug DeVore. Pinch hitter Chris Donnels and Mike Bell drew walks after Brad Cresse flew out to left for the first out of the inning. Luis Terrero grounded out to 2nd but was able to get the run home bring the score to 4-2. Matt Kata walked to the plate as the winning run with runners on first and third with 2 outs. Kata drove a pitch to deep centerfield but CF Anthony Iapoce was able to pull it in just in front of the warning track to end the game.
After taking 3 of 4 from the Isotopes the Sidewinders will travel to face their South Division rivals the Las Vegas 51's. Greg Swindell (0-0, 4.66) will take the mound for Tucson and will face Tony McKnight (0-0, 0.00) of Las Vegas.
