Puckett Homers, But Hillcats Fall In Series Finale
April 11, 2010 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Cody Puckett nailed his first homerun of the season, but a four-run eighth inning led the Frederick Keys to the victory in the series finale at City Stadium.
Puckett hit the third pitch he saw from Keys starter Cole McCurry over the left-center field fence to put the Cats up 1-0 in the second inning. That lead held until the top of the eighth inning. Lynchburg pitcher Scott Gaffney walked two straight batters before being pulled for Justin Freeman.
Freeman struck out the first batter he faced, then gave up a 2-RBI double to L.J. Hoes, then a two-run home run to Joe Mahoney to cap the scoring. Lynchburg was unable to score in the eighth and ninth innings. Gaffney gets credit for the loss.
Frederick reliever Kenny Moreland shut down the Hillcats in four innings of relief. He picks up the win. Sean Gleason gets credit for the save.
Travis Webb started for Lynchburg. He threw four innings of scoreless baseball and struck out six.
Lynchburg has a day off Monday and resumes play Tuesday against the Salem Red Sox. The series marks the first time the teams will meet since the Mills Cup Championship Series, where Lynchburg swept Salem 3-0. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 6:05. Lynchburg throws out righty Lance Janke against Red Sox right-hander Stolmy Pimentel. Tuesday will be the debut of ABC13 Dollar Menu Tuesday at City Stadium.
