THE HILLCATS: Last night the Hillcats split a doubleheader with the Keys, taking game one 4-3 and dropping game two 9-1 in extra innings...Today is the final game of a four-game series between the two teams and the fourth contest of a seven-game homestand for the Cats...

VS. FREDERICK: The Hillcats went 14-5 versus the Keys last season were 7-2 at City Stadium...Lynchburg holds the all-time advantage 160-136 and they are 84-67 at Calvin Falwell Field and they have won two of the first three games in this series...The Hillcats won five of the six series versus the Keys last season and tied the other...The Cats record against the Keys was their best against any opponent in the Carolina League at home, on the road and overall...Seven of the Hillcats first ten games are against Frederick...

OUTSIDE THE BOX: RHP Brad Boxberger made his official professional debut last night and allowed just one run on two hits and struck out seven in five innings of work...The supplemental first round pick from a year ago (43rd overall selection) struggled in the prestigious Arizona Fall League this off-season, going 1-1 with an 11.37 ERA with the Peoria Saguaras...This after an outstanding season at USC in which he posted a 6-3 mark with a 3.16 ERA in 14 starts...

ON MORE THAN ONE FRONT: OF Josh Fellhauer jacked the first Hillcats home run of the season to start the bottom of the third inning in game one last night...He also threw out a runner trying to score from second base with a one-hop throw from left field...Last season with Low-A Dayton Fellhauer hit seven home runs in 57 games with a wood bat after he hit six homers in 60 games with Cal State Fullerton with a metal bat...

ONE FOR THE TEAM: In game two of the twin bill last night OF Josh Fellhauer got hit with a pitch to reach base in the third inning...Last season he got plunked by a pitch seven times in 57 games with Dayton...During his junior season at Cal State Fullerton last year, Fellhauer got smacked 16 times and in his three years as a Titan he got hit by a pitch 31 times...

LOCKED AND LOADED: C Chris McMurray is rated as the best defensive catcher in the Reds system by Baseball America and last night he made his first appearance of the season in game two...In the first inning he threw out a potential base thief to complete a strike 'em out, throw 'em out double play to end the top of the first inning...Then in the seventh inning with the game tied at one and two men on base for the Keys, McMurray picked off a runner on second base to end the threat...

NEW LEAF: Last night C Devin Mesoraco went 1-for-2 with an RBI, a run and a walk in the Hillcats game one win...Through two games this season the catcher is 3-for-4 with two RBI, two runs and two walks...In 2009 Mesoraco batted just .228 in 92 games while battling a series of injuries with Advanced-A Sarasota in the Florida State League...The former first round draft pick in 2007 (15th overall selection) .240 career batting average in three seasons in the minors...

THURMINATOR: LHP Mace Thurman worked the ninth inning in game one last night to give the lefty two saves in the first two games of the season...Last season he finished the season with Advanced-A Sarasota where he posted a 1.10 ERA in 30 games and was eight-for-ten in save situations...

NEW KIDS IN TOWN: This season the Hillcats are the minor league affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds for the first time ever...It is the first season since 1994 that the Cats have not been affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates...The Reds are the tenth different Major League team that has been the parent club to Lynchburg...Over the last 34 seasons Lynchburg has only has only been affiliated with three different teams (New York Mets, Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates)...None of the players on the Hillcats roster had ever played in the Carolina League...

BEST OF THE REDLEGS: Seven members of the Hillcats are ranked amongst the top 30 prospects in the Reds organization prior to the season according to Baseball America...That list includes RHP Brad Boxberger (9), UTIL Neftali Soto (13), SS Miguel Rojas (17), RHP Mark Serrano (24), OF Josh Fellhauer (26), INF Cody Puckett (28) and C Devin Mesoraco (30)...

TODAY'S OPPOSING PITCHERS: LHP Cole McCurry was selected by the Orioles in the 43rd round of the 2007 draft...That same year he made his professional debut with the GCL Orioles and went 6-5 with a 3.07 ERA in 15 games (10 starts) before he moved up to full season Low-A Delmarva...With the Shorebirds we had a 2-0 mark with a 1.80 ERA in 2 games (one start)...He pitched with Delmarva and Short-Season Low-A Aberdeen in 2008...With Delmarva he had a 2-6 record with a 6.51 ERA in 13 games (12 starts)...As an Ironbird McCurry went 8-3 with a 2.76 earned run average...He returned to Delmarva last season and put up a 6-9 mark with a 2.71 ERA in 26 games (25 starts)...Today he makes his Advanced-A debut and his first start against Lynchburg...
