Providence Win Signals First Streak of Season

December 5, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release

PROVIDENCE, R. I. - Alexander Khokhlachev notched the winning goal in tonight's match up against the Springfield Falcons. This marks the third consecutive win for the Providence Bruins - the longest streak of the season.

Colby Cave streaked down the right wing and released the puck at the top of the circle. His snipe went upper left corner and gave the P-Bruins the lead 13:34 into the first period.

Zane McIntyre looked confident between the pipes, turning away all 10 shots he faced in the first period. McIntyre looked particularly solid during the one penalty kill of the period, standing on his head to keep Providence in the game.

The Falcons thought they had tied the game up early in the second period, but the goal was waved off. After review, the officials ruled the puck never fully crossed the line.

Providence continued to pound Domingue with shots throughout the second, which ultimately culminated in a goal from Khokhlachev. Tommy Cross walked in from the blue line and got a shot on net then collected his own rebound. Cross dished it off to Colton Hargrove who tossed a back-handed shot on net which rebounded right to Khokhlachev's stick. Khokhlachev put it past a diving Domingue to put the P-Bruins up 2-10 with 8:22 left in the second period. This is Koko's first weekend back from hand surgery - his last goal was during Pink in the Rink on October 30th

The Pirates fought back in the third period, O'Donoghue scoring an unassisted goal 6:08 into the period to put the Falcons within one goal.

Zack Phillips hammered the nail in Springfield's coffin with an empty netter with under 2 minutes to go in regulation.

Providence outshot the Falcons 42-29, despite having no power plays and killing three penalties. McIntyre stopped 28 of 29 shots thrown at him - his second most of the season.

The Providence Bruins and the Springfield Falcons play again at the Dunk tomorrow November 6th at 3:05pm.
