Rochester Americans News Release

(Albany, NY)... Brady Austin scored his first goal of the season 1:29 into the third period, but a pair of power-play goals by the Albany Devils proved to be the difference as the Rochester Americans closed out the weekend on the losing end of a 2-1 decision Saturday at Times Union Center.

Jason Akeson recorded the assist on Austin's lone tally while Andrey Makarov was again solid between the pipes for the Amerks, stopping 28 of 30 shots as Rochester fell to 10-11-1-0 on the season.

Max Novak and Mike Sislo each scored on the power-play while Matt Lorito assisted on both goals, helping Albany to its fifth straight win. Yann Danis finished with 23 saves for the Devils and now leads all American Hockey League goaltenders with 13 wins on the season while pushing his personal win streak to a season-high five games.

The Amerks fell into early penalty trouble and it proved costly as the Devils, who entered the contest with the second-best power-play in the league, needed just 1:16 into their first man-advantage opportunity to capitalize. Novak deflected a shot from Lorito on goal that was met by Makarov, but the rookie forward was able to collect his own rebound and flipped it over the Rochester netminder for his first pro goal and 1-0 Albany lead. Blandisi also earned an assist on the goal, Albany's league-leading 25th power-play tally this season.

The second period began with a few quality scoring chances for each side, but Rochester again fell into more ill-fated penalty trouble and the Devils would take advantage. With Nick Baptiste serving a bench minor for too many men on the ice, Blandisi drove to the net from the right corner looking to put a shot inside the near post. Makarov shut the door on Blandisi's stuff-in attempt, but the puck somehow kicked out to the left circle to Sislo, who after out-waiting the Rochester defense, wristed home his team-leading 13th goal of the season to the upper corner.

Rochester drew to within one just 89 seconds into the third period when Austin unleashed a shot from the point that made its way through traffic and past a screened Danis to make it 2-1.

The Amerks pulled Makarov with under a minute left to play in the third period, and despite generating several chances with the extra man, were ultimately unable to get past Danis in the closing seconds as Albany held on for the win.

Rochester is back on home ice on Wednesday, Dec. 9 when they take on the Utica Comets in a midweek North Division showdown at The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:05 p.m. matchup will be the third of eight meetings between the two teams this season and will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1280 Rochester. The Amerks and Comets are even through the first two games of the season series with each team winning on home ice.
