Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators beat the St. John's IceCaps 4-1 in front of a home crowd giving rookie goaltender Matt O'Connor his first professional win. Six B-Sens players picked up points in the win with Ryan Dzingel leading all skaters with one goal and two assists.

Mark MacMillan opened the scoring for the night at the 4:14 mark of the first period after getting one past the B-Sens' O'Connor for his second goal of the year. Matt Puempel answered for Binghamton a little over two minutes later for the Teddy Bear Toss goal of the night. Puempel found himself behind a sprawled out IceCaps goaltender, Dustin Tokarski, and put home his sixth goal of the year with Cole Schneider and Dzingel picking up assists. The B-Sens went to the locker room tied with St. John's 1-1 despite being outshot 13-9.

Dzingel broke the tie with only 1:25 left in the middle frame for his sixth goal of the year. Claesson let a shot rip from the blue line that went over Tokarski's shoulder and found Dzingel by the crease who then tipped it up high under the cross bar. After not being called initially, the B-Sens were awarded the goal following an official review with Claesson and Max McCormick picking up the helpers. The B-Sens took the 2-1 lead to the locker room after outshooting the IceCaps 6-5 in the second period.

McCormick scored his fifth goal of the year 5:28 into the third period to help push the B-Sens lead to 3-1. Dzingel passed a centering feed to McCormick who then one-timed it past Tokarski. Puempel gave Binghamton the insurance goal with his second of the night and an empty netter with 24 seconds remaining in the game making the final score 4-1.

O'Connor had 27 saves in his first win of the season while Tokarski finished with 26 in the losing effort.

Binghamton travels to Springfield on Friday, December 11, for a 7:00p.m. faceoff against the Crunch. Fans can listen live on US 96.9FM, WINR 680AM or on the iHeart Radio app.
