Providence, RI -- The Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs 3-2 this evening at The Dunkin' Donuts Center. The Bruins received solid contributions from Kyle MacKinnon, who tallied his first two goals of the season and Torey Krug, who earned the game-winning goal. Chris Bourque improved upon his lead in team scoring with his 13th assist and Niklas Svedberg earned his third victory over the Monarchs in four appearances this season.

The P-Bruins opened up a three-game stand on the heels of a successful weekend that saw the Bruins gain five of a potential six points, highlighted by victories over the Connecticut Whale and the Portland Pirates.

Given the Bruins recent string of victories, Head Coach Bruce Cassidy emphasized the need for his troops to get off to a fast start against their Atlantic Division foe in hopes of maintaining momentum.

Cassidy's plan was foiled as the Bruins failed to apply consistent offensive pressure. Sensing an opportunity, the Monarchs capitalized as Bryan Rodney recorded his first goal of the season, with Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli earning assists. It appeared as if the Monarchs would head into the intermission with their lead in tact after a near-dominant opening frame, however MacKinnon would salvage a sluggish start and provided the Bruins with the equalizer in the waning moments of the period, beating Martin Jones for his first marker of the season.

The second period featured both clubs exchanging multiple power-play opportunities, however the Monarchs appeared to have seized momentum, as evident by their lead in shot totals. Rodney's good fortunes would continue in his first appearance in a Monarchs jersey, beating Svedberg halfway into the period, thus re-capturing the lead.

A beautiful feed by Bourque would spring MacKinnon loose for a one-on-one duel with Jones; MacKinnon would get the best of the Monarchs goaltender once more. A derisive case of déjà-vu sent the clubs heading to the locker rooms for the second intermission in a deadlock heat, yet again.

The Bruins and Monarchs both hit the ice for the final frame seeking the moment that would propel them to a much-needed two points in the Eastern Conference standings.

It was none other than Krug who provided that crucial moment six minutes into the final period. Krug received a cross-ice feed from Colby Cohen and launched a top-shelf wrister past Jones. Svedberg would secure the lead with a perfect stat line in the third period, thus clinching the Bruins third victory in their past four games.

Svedberg out dueled Jones in stopping 28 of 30 Monarchs attempts and improving to 9-4-0-1. Jones' 27-save effort proved to be for naught and drops to 8-9-0-1 through 18 appearances for Manchester.

Providence returns to The Dunk Sunday for a matinee matchup with the Adirondack Phantoms. The puck drops at 4:05 p.m. for Stadium Cup Day.
