Texas Stars News Release
EDAR PARK, TX - Brenden Dillon's third period goal tied the game and forced overtime, but Jason Zucker won the game in the extra session as the Texas Stars fell short to the Houston Aeros 2-1 Friday night at Cedar Park Center.
Texas came storming out and quickly laid siege to the Houston net. Goalie Matt Hackett had to be strong through the period as he was constantly tested by the Stars attackers. Without a shot on goal in the first five minutes of play, the Aeros got on the board when Kris Fredheim's shot from the point deflected off a Texas defender and into the net at 5:32. The Stars out-shot Houston 16-5 in the first period, but found themselves trailing 1-0.
After a scoreless second period, the fans started to feel the anxiety as the Stars searched for the tying goal. They found it at 13:24 as Brenden Dillon unleashed a shot from the middle of the blue line that beat Hackett and caught the inside of the left post. Assists on the goal went to Travis Morin and Francis Wathier, who was celebrating his 28th birthday.
Houston rookie Jason Zucker stunned the home crowd in overtime as he snuck in behind the defense and beat Cristopher Nilstorp with a backhander up into the roof of the net at 3:07 to win the game for the Aeros. The goal was Zucker's team-leading 12th goal of the season.
Matt Hackett stopped 35-of-36 shots to record his ninth win in goal for Houston and was named the game's first star. Cristopher Nilstorp was the game's second star and finished with 18 saves on 20 shots, but took the loss for Texas. The Stars out-shot the Aeros 36-20 in the game and went 0-for-4 on the power play; Houston was 0-for-2 on the man advantage.
The Texas Stars continue their two-game weekend home stand at Cedar Park Center on Saturday, December 8th as they host the Peoria Rivermen for a 7:00 p.m. faceoff. It is Sing For Santa weekend and Saturday is Stars Fleece Blanket giveaway night presented by University Federal Credit Union. Pro-rated full and partial 2012-13 season seat packages are on sale now.
