Lehigh Valley Phantoms News Release
Lehigh Valley, PA - The fastest game on two feet is coming to PPL Center this Saturday.
Just three months after hosting the Lehigh Valley's first-ever National Hockey League game, the PPL Center is set to make history once again as it will host the area's first-ever professional lacrosse game this Saturday, December 19 when the former Philadelphia Wings (now the New England Black Wolves) face off against their arch rivals, the Buffalo Bandits. The National Lacrosse League (NLL) showdown is set to begin at 7:05 p.m. with great seats still available at pplcenter.com, by calling 610-347-TIXX [8499] or by visiting the Mealey's Furniture Box Office at PPL Center [701 Hamilton Street].
"It gives us great pleasure to bring back the Wings and Professional Lacrosse to Eastern Pennsylvania," said Jim Brooks of PPL Center. "Hosting this game will provide an opportunity for Wings fans and Lacrosse fans in Philadelphia, Lehigh Valley, as well as New Jersey to come see the top professionals in their sport."
"It's great to bring the National Lacrosse League to the Lehigh Valley with a game at PPL Center," said NLL Commissioner George Danial, a native of Easton, Pennsylvania. "There are many loyal fans in the area who can expect an entertaining night of lacrosse between two division rivals."
The Philadelphia Wings are one of the most recognized names in all of professional indoor lacrosse. The Wings played in Philadelphia for 29 years, from 1986 to 2014 as part of the NLL and captured 6 League Championships during that time, the most in league history. In the summer of 2014, the Wings announced their relocation to New England.
Saturday's game will not only feature the former Philadelphia Wings franchise but will also celebrate the team's history with an appearance from three of its all-time greats in Jeff Spano, Tom Slate and Jake Bergey. All three will be available on the concourse during halftime on Saturday to meet fans and sign autographs.
