Procyshen Honored with Americans' Scholastic Alumni Achievement Award
March 15, 2016 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Tri-City Americans News Release
Kennewick, WA - The Tri-City Americans will honor former team captain, Taylor Procyshen, prior to the game on Saturday, March 19 against Spokane, with the Scholastic Alumni Achievement Award as part of the Western Hockey League's 50th Season celebration.
Taylor played four WHL seasons, recording 259 regular season games played and 39 playoffs games, all with the Americans. Procyshen registered a total of 237 points. In his 2008-09 season, as Americans' team captain, he became the first Americans' player to be named as the WHL's Humanitarian of the Year.
Once Taylor's junior career was over, he used his WHL Scholarship to attend the University of New Brunswick from 2009-2011, taking two years of business. Taylor then decided to quit hockey, due to injury, and transfer to the University of Saskatchewan, where he then finished his business degree and enrolled for a diploma in Agronomy. He has currently applied for his Master's Degree in Soil Fertility, which he will start in September.
Each season played in the WHL, a player is awarded with a post-secondary scholarship to a University, college, technical institute, trade school or career enhancing institution of their choice. This scholarship covers tuition, compulsory fees and required textbooks.
Taylor is anticipating his return to the Toyota Center to accept this award, "I am really looking forward to coming back to Tri-Cities. I have so many fond memories of the people I met, the fans, the banners, the organization as a whole. I haven't been to Tri-Cities for a few years now, but it is always a nostalgic feeling doing the same drive to the rink, walking in the same doors, seeing familiar sights, and hearing familiar sounds. I am really looking forward to this weekend!"
The Americans and WHL will also award Stu Barnes and Olaf Kolzig the WHL Alumni Achievement Award in the Professional hockey category. Barnes, who played 133 regular season games in an Americans' jersey, also represented Team Canada at the World Junior Championships and played 15 years in the NHL. Kolzig, who played 78 games between the pipes for the Americans, was a first round draft pick by the Washington Capitals in 1989, played over 15 years in the NHL, and represented Germany multiple times on the world stage. Both Barns and Kolzig will be honored, but will not be in attendance.
In addition to his on-ice presentation, Taylor will be on the Toyota Center concourse Saturday evening, visiting with fans at the Gesa Credit Union photo booth behind Section C. Fans can meet Taylor and take their picture with him from 6:00-6:45 pm, as well during the first intermission. Season Ticket Holders will also have an exclusive opportunity to win a Taylor Procyshen jersey, hand delivered by Taylor himself, down on the ice as apart of Saturday's ceremony. Season Ticket Holders should visit AmsHockey.com and enter-to-win online by 5:00pm on Thursday, March 17th.
Tickets are on sale now at the Toyota Center box office or online at ticketmaster.com. Call the Americans' office at (509) 736-0606 or visit AmsHockey.com or drop by the Americans offices' at the bottom level of the Toyota Center for more information.
