Price Homers Again, Y'alls Fall to Otters in Extras

Florence Y'alls News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN - Tied at three runs apiece through six innings Saturday night, the Y'alls and the Otters needed extra innings to determine a winner, and it was Evansville that came out on top 4-3 thanks to a JR Davis walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the tenth at Bosse Field.

The Otters (50-38) have won five consecutive games and nine of their last ten. They have evened the season series against Florence at four wins apiece. The Y'alls (34-53), meanwhile, have lost three games in a row.

For the second consecutive night, Brennan Price hit a first inning home run to give the Y'alls an early lead. Price has hit three home runs in four road games this week. Florence added onto that lead with another run in the second to stake a 2-0 advantage.

The lead would not last for long, however. A Jeffrey Baez RBI double put the Otters on the board in the bottom of the second, and Evansville would take the lead one inning later on a Dakota Phillips two-run double. Evansville would remain in the lead until the sixth when Axel Johnson drove home a run on a double of his own to knot the game at 3-3, a score that would last until the walk-off ending in the tenth.

Both starting pitchers get credit for a quality start, but neither factors into the decision. Jeremy Ovalle went six innings giving up the three runs, striking out five and walking two. Through nine starts, Ovalle is still in search of his first win on the mound. Austin Gossmann countered with six innings as well, also giving up three runs though only one was earned. He struck out eight batters.

Jacob Bowles and Jake Polancic each pitched two scoreless innings of relief, and Polancic earns the win for Evansville. After two shutout innings from Evy Ruibal, Kent Klyman pitched a scoreless inning in the ninth before surrendering the tenth inning run to take the loss.

Florence plays its final road game of the season tomorrow, Sunday, August 28, to wrap up the series against Evansville. Chances are it could be another close game as half of the games between the two teams have been decided by three runs or fewer, including both games so far this weekend. Jonaiker Villalobos is Florence's probable starting pitcher for a 12:35 PM CDT start time at Bosse Field.
