
Preview: Steel FC Welcomes Atlanta United 2 for Heroes Day

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After the club's franchise-record eight-match unbeaten streak come to an end Thursday, Bethlehem Steel FC looks to begin a new streak and begin its push for the USL Cup Playoffs when it welcomes Atlanta United 2 on Sunday, July 29. The contest is Steel FC's annual 'Heroes Day', where the club will thank and honor veterans, active military members and first responders. Kick off from Goodman Stadium on the campus of Lehigh University is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be broadcast locally on Service Electric and on ESPN+.
Earlier this week Steel FC battled Indy Eleven even for the majority of the contest but fell on the 86th minute headed goal from Jack McInerney. Steel FC outshot the USL-newcomers by a 10-9 margin and fired four shots on net but was unable to find an equalizer as Indy Eleven collected its eighth clean sheet of 2018.
Sunday's contest is the second and final regular-season meeting scheduled between the two sides with MLS affiliations. Atlanta United 2 claimed all three points in the inaugural showdown as Brandon Vazquez and Oliver Shannon struck for goals while Philadelphia Union midfielder Derrick Jones scored for Steel FC in the 2-1 contest back on July 11.
In its first season of existence, Atlanta United 2 after a 1-0 defeat earlier in the week to Nashville SC. While the club has won three games this season, none have come away from Coolray Field with Atlanta United 2 coming to Goodman Stadium with three points in 12 road matches. The visitors will be without midfielder Andrew Kendall-Moullin for the weekend affair, due to yellow card accumulation. John Gallagher leads the club with six of the team's 21 goals.
