San Antonio FC Travels to Face OKC Energy FC
July 27, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX - San Antonio FC (7-5-7) will travel to Oklahoma City to face OKC Energy FC (6-10-5) at Taft Stadium on Saturday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m. The match marks the third in the span of eight days for SAFC and the eighth matchup between the two clubs in USL regular season play.
SAFC heads into the match looking to build on a two-game winning streak. The club previously earned a 4-2 win against league-leaders Real Monarchs SLC last Saturday before earning a 1-0 win against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Toyota Field on Wednesday night.
The Energy will look to build on an eight-game unbeaten run at home as they host SAFC on Saturday. The club has recorded four wins during the streak, most notably earning a 6-4 win against Las Vegas Lights FC on July 11. Despite a slow start to their season, the club is currently in 11th place in the standings, just five points behind SAFC.
SAFC and OKC have faced each other on eight occasions in the USL regular season since the Alamo City club's 2016 inaugural season, as well as once in the 2017 USL Playoffs Western Conference semifinal. The two teams have played to a draw in seven of their eight matchups in all competitions, most recently playing to a 1-1 draw at Toyota Field on July 4.
For San Antonio FC, controlling the game will be a key factor as they aim to earn a third consecutive win and their first against the Energy. In their previous two wins, the club outshot and out-possessed their opponent and recorded above an 80 percent passing accuracy.
Should SAFC earn a win on Saturday, the team could potentially jump from 10th place in the standings to sixth, pending other results across the league, and find themselves back in a playoff position.
Following their match against the Energy, San Antonio FC will return home to face the LA Galaxy II at Toyota Field on Saturday, August 4.
