Bethlehem Steel FC Teams up with PCFLV for Back to School Supply Drive

Philadelphia Union II News Release

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - For the second-consecutive year as calendars change to August, Bethlehem Steel FC will be hosting a Back to School Drive beginning today and running through the club's home match against in-state rival Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Sunday, August 12.

This year the club will be aiding the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley, with the two organization's coming together to benefit families throughout the region as the upcoming school year approaches. The supply drive seeks donations of new school supplies with all supporters that donate receiving two complimentary LVHN Lawn tickets to the Aug. 12 contest at Goodman Stadium on the campus of Lehigh University.

"After a successful supply drive last season, we are very excited to aid children throughout the Lehigh Valley once again," Scott Evans, Bethlehem Steel FC Managing Director of Business Operations, said. "Being able to team up and support PCFLV once again makes this year's Back to School Drive even more special so that we can support their families and provide a strong foundation for the upcoming school year."

Supplies in high demand from PCFLV include spiral notebooks, folders, pencils, rulers, colored pencils, book covers and highlighters.

"We are so thankful that Bethlehem Steel FC and their fans are supporting our Back To School Drive this year," said Michelle Zenie, Executive Director at PCFLV. "The cost of back to school supplies can really overwhelm a pediatric cancer family who is already dealing with so many expenses due to their child's diagnosis."

The Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley is dedicated to supporting quality-of-life for children diagnosed with cancer in the greater Lehigh Valley and their families, as well as long-term survivorship and bereavement programs. All of the programming and events are offered at no cost to these families. The Foundation believes that a pediatric cancer diagnosis affects the WHOLE family, and their mission reflects that belief. They also believe that a family's experience with childhood cancer does not end when treatment ends. Because of that, PCFLV follows a continuum of care model, hoping to be a friend to families from the date their child is diagnosed forever forward.

Drop off locations will include the Bethlehem Steel FC front office located at 44 East Broad St., Suite 135, in Bethlehem. Donations will be accepted at the office Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Fans can also bring their supplies to the PCFLV office at 25 West 3rd Street in Bethlehem during the same hours.

Supporters can also bring their items to Steel FC's home match on August 12th against Pittsburgh. That match will see the gates open at 4 p.m. for the scheduled 5 p.m. kick off.
