Preview: Rockets Wrap Up Regular Season

The Kelowna Rockets will wrap up their 2022-23 regular season schedule with a home-and-home series against the Vancouver Giants this weekend. The pair will start the weekend on Friday at 7:30 at the Langley Events Centre, they'll then come back to Propsera Place for the Rockets Fan Appreciation game at 7:05 pm on Saturday.

The Rockets busy weekend will continue on Sunday with their 2022-23 team Awards Ceremony, brought to you by Orchard Ford, at the Kelowna Community Theatre (1375 Water Street, Kelowna). Fans will have the chance to mingle with all of their favourite Rockets during a catered reception from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The ceremony will then take place from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Tickets are priced at $30.00 for adults and $20.00 for kids twelve and under, they're on sale now through Anne-Marie Hamilton at the Rockets office. The Rockets are coming off of back-to-back losses to the Kamloops Blazers last weekend, in the final game of their seasonal series the Rockets fell 5-4 in overtime. For the second straight night, the Blazers heavily outshot the Rockets 58 to 29. Talyn Boyko turned aside four of the five shots he faced in the first 6:12 of the game before Jari Kykkanen replaced him. Kykkanen stopped 49 of the 53 shots fired on him. Andrew Cristall recorded a pair, while Carson Golder and Dylan Wightman also found the back of the net for the Rockets.

The Giants played a midweek Tuesday night game in Portland on Tuesday, where they forced the game into overtime picking up the single point they needed to secure the seventh spot in the western conference playoff race. Ty Halaburda recorded his second goal of the night at 4:24 into overtime to lift the Giants to victory.

The last time these two met

The Kelowna Rockets snapped their three-game losing streak with a 4-3 comeback shootout victory over the Vancouver Giants on March 20th at Prospera Place.

The Rockets fell behind 2-0 in the first period, trailing 3-1 after two periods of play the Rockets were able to stage a comeback in the third period to force the game into extra time. Kelowna headed to their second shootout of the season where Gabriel Szturc scored the lone goal of the skills competition, while goaltender Jari Kykkanen turned aside the three shots he faced.

Roster Updates

Ismail Abougouche and Logan Peskett will both miss the remainder of the season with upper-body injuries that required season-ending surgery

Rockets to watch

Twenty-year-old player Adam Kydd, Talyn Boyko and Carson Golder will play in their final regular season WHL games. The trio of 2002-born players will age out of the WHL at the end of the season

The Kelowna Rockets online 50/50 is back for the 2022-23 season!

The online 50/50 will give fans in Rockets fans located in British Columbia and those who are attending the game the chance to win during every Rockets home game this season. The 50/50 will also raise important dollars for the Kelowna Minor Hockey Association.

Tickets will be available for purchase on all game days starting at 9 a.m. PT and end at the start of the third period on the same day.
