Swift Current Broncos News Release
SWIFT CURRENT, SK - The Swift Current Broncos (9-27-1-2) are hoping a return to home ice will yield better results against the Calgary Hitmen (21-13-4-1) after Sunday's 3-1 loss at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
A scoreless first period had the Broncos outshot 16-8 but Calgary, but Isaiah DiLaura was solid in the Broncos crease, his first start with his new team. In the second period, the Hitmen struck early and often.
Orca Wiesblatt, Blake Allan and Connor Gabruch all scored in a 5:03 span to give Calgary a big 3-0 lead heading into the third period. D-Jay Jerome was stopped on a penalty shot late in the frame, the Broncos best chance to get on the scoreboard.
Swift Current would finally solve Brayden Peters after Tyler Smithies stole the puck behind the Calgary net and sent it in front for Jaxan Kaluski who fired home his fifth goal in as many games to cut the lead to 3-1. It was Kaluski's 11th of the season, nearly doubling his career high of six set with Seattle last season.
Unfortunately for the Broncos that was as close as they would come in the 3-1 loss with DiLaura turning aside 42 shots.
Swift Current now plays four of their next five games on home ice, with Friday in Saskatoon being the lone road game. The Broncos have had much more success at home than on the road, posting a 6-11-0-1 record on home compared to 3-16-1-1 on the road.
That record is magnified against Central Division opponents as the Broncos are 4-5-0-0 on home ice against the Central, but 0-8-0-0 on the road.
