PrairieThunder Suffers Loss

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Matt Syroczynski had a hat trick with an assist for four points to lead the Fort Wayne Komets to a 6-2 victory over the Bloomington PrairieThunder before 5,531 people Wednesday night at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in International Hockey League action.

The loss dropped Bloomington's record to 20-19-2-5 (47 points), while Fort Wayne improved to 27-15-0-2 (56 points). The PrairieThunder returns to action Friday at home with a 7:05 p.m. game against Quad City.

Fort Wayne scored only 2:44 into the game when Syroczynski found the net off assists by Konstantin Shafranov and Brandon Warner. The Komets' second goal of the period was by Leo Thomas with an assist to Brad MacMillan at the 7-minute mark.

Syroczynski added his second goal midway through the second period off assists by Colin Chaulk and Danko Mironovic to extend the Fort Wayne lead to 3-1.

Bloomington had cut its deficit in half 56 seconds into the second period on a power play goal by Bill Bagron with an assist to Jason Lepine.

Rookie Nick Elligsen scored his first professional goal for the PrairieThunder with 7:19 remaining in the third period off an assist by Robin Gomez to chop the disadvantage to 3-2 when the wheels fell off the Bloomington rally.

The PrairieThunder gave up three straight goals in the final 5:26 during a 93-seconds span to absorb the loss. Shafranov started the scoring blitz with assists from Frankie DeAngelis and Warner.

Syroczynski completed his hat trick on a power play goal 39 seconds later on assists by Shafranov and Warner before MacMillan completed the scoring 20 seconds later on assists by Kaleigh Schrock and DeAngelis at the 3:53 mark.

Sebastian Dahm took the loss in net, facing 45 shots and stopping 39. Tim Haun was the winning goalie by pushing aside 20 of 22 shots. Bloomington was 1 for 8 on the power play, while Fort Wayne was 1 of 5.
