Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (February 10, 2010) - Patrick Levesque produced a natural hat trick as the host Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, stretched their regulation unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-0-1) and moved into a fifth place tie with the Dayton Gems by defeating Dayton 6-3 Wednesday night.

Levesque scored his first from the high slot at 13:48 of the first period to get the Mallards on the scoreboard for the first time after the Gems had jumped out to an early 2-0 lead.

Levesque buried a rebound to even the score at two at 11:15 of the second period. Just 89 seconds later the Mallards were on the power play when Levesque broke the tie with a drive from the right wing circle.

The Mallards' roll continued into the third period when, with Quad City once more on the man advantage, Juris Stals swept a rebound in at 5:33 to make it 4-2 and just over a minute later Joel Gasper converted a give-and-go with Chris Lipsett (three assists) for the fifth unanswered Quad City goal.

The Gems would narrow the gap to 5-3 when Justin McCutcheon pounced on a rebound for his second goal of the night at 11:25 of the third, but with just 7.2 seconds left in the contest Gasper finished off the Mallard win by depositing his second goal of the night into an empty net.

The Mallards did not begin the game nearly as well as they finished it. Dayton's John Snowden scored the evening's first goal from a tight angle just 19 seconds into the first period. At 4:45 of the first McCutcheon doubled the lead from close range. In the wake of the second Gems goal, Mallard starting goaltender Jerad Kaufmann was replaced by Kyle Jones, who would turn in a solid 25 save effort.

The Mallards will visit the Bloomington PrairieThunder Friday night before returning home Saturday evening at 7:05 p.m. to take on the Fort Wayne Komets. Cash prizes totaling $1,000 will be given away with random hot dogs from i wireless Center concession stands during the Saturday night's game.
