
PrairieThunder Succumb to Mallards

MOLINE, Ill. - Mike Zbriger scored in the fourth round of an International Hockey League shootout to give the Quad City Mallards a 4-3 victory over the Bloomington PrairieThunder before 2,635 people Sunday at the i wireless center.
Despite the loss, the PrairieThunder remained in sole possession of first place in the standings with an 8-3-0-2 record (18 points).
Craig Macdonald, who scored two goals, tied the game for Bloomington with 3.3 seconds remaining on a power play with assists to Jesse Dudas and Bill Bagron. Jon Booras had a goal in the shootout for Bloomington, but goals by Terry Harrison and Zbriger brought about the final result. Other PrairieThunder shooters were Jason Lepine and Macdonald.
Russ Smith gave the PrairieThunder its first goal with 12:29 left in the first period off assists by Ryan Finnerty and Bagron. Joel Gasper tied the game for the Mallards with 11:08 left in the second period.
Macdonald put Bloomington back on top with 10:05 remaining in the second period on an assist by Zac Pearson. Quad City tied the game with 16:09 remaining in the game on a Harrison score.
Quad City gained a 3-2 advantage on an A.J. Bozoian power play effort with 9:59 left on assists by Chris Lipsett and Zbriger. That set the stage for Macdonald's game-tying goal, sending the contest into overtime.
Andrew Martin took the loss in net, stopping 38 of 41 shots. Kyle Jones was the winning goalie by pushing aside 3 of 40. Bloomington was 1 fo3 on the power play, while Quad City was 1 for 6.
Bloomington is idle until Saturday at 7:05 p.m. when it meets two-time defending IHL champion Fort Wayne at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
