Buffalo Bandits News Release
Buffalo, N.Y. (May 10, 2005) --- The National Lacrosse League today announced that Bandits forward Delby Powless has been selected to the All-Rookie team. Powless joins AJ Shannon (2004) and Phil Wetherup (2001) as the only Bandits to be honored with this distinction.
"Delby Powless had a tremendous season with us," stated Bandits General Manager Kurt Silcott. "He has shown the potential to become a considerable offensive force in this league and we are excited to see him develop."
The first-overall selection in the 2004 NLL Entry Draft, Powless appeared in 13 games for Buffalo this season and set a franchise rookie record for assists (24). The previous mark (23) had stood for 13 years and was established by Derek Keenan during the Bandits inaugural 1992 season. Powless, a Six Nations, Ontario native also scored the second most points (44) and fifth most goals (20) by a rookie for Buffalo.
During the regular season, Powless ranked fifth on the team in assists and points, and was tied for fifth in goals with Jason Crosbie.
In the Bandits quarterfinal loss to the Rochester Knighthawks, he scored a goal and four assists in his first post-season experience.
