
Power split doubleheader

(Lexington, KY)- The West Virginia Power split a doubleheader with the Lexington Legends Saturday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark, falling 2-0 and winning 4-3.
Starting pitchers John Kuchno and Colin Rodgers matched zeros over the first four innings. Kuchno struck out three and walked one over the first four while Rodgers struck out four and walked one. The Legends cracked the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Ethan Chapman walked and scored on a single by Raul Mondesi.
Lexington added a run in the sixth inning when Bubba Starling doubled and scored on a two-base hit by Jin-Ho Shin. Power manager Michael Ryan was ejected after a single to center by Humberto Arteaga. Ryan argued that Sosa caught the ball on the fly.
In theseventh, West Virginia put the tying run aboard. With one out and runners on the corners, Raul Fortunato hit a ground ball to second. Francisco Diaz slide into second to break up the double play, but base umpire Travis Godec ruled both Diaz and Fortunato out on interference to end the game. West Virginia pitching coach Jeff Johnson was ejected immediately after the game by home plate umpire Morgan Day.
Kuchno (1-2) took the loss while Rodgers (3-1) earned the victory.
Prior to the first pitch of the second game, Ryan was ejected again for continuing his argument with the umpires.
Lexington jumped to an early lead in the second game. Terrance Gore singled off spot starter Jason Creasy and scored on a single to left by Michael Antonio. West Virginia tied the game on doubles by Walker Gourley and Ashley Ponce in the top of the second, but the Legends immediately recaptured the lead in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs.
Trailing 3-1 in the sixth inning, the Power managed to load the bases without a hit. Eric Wood, D.J. Crumlich, and Raul Fortunato all walked before Wood scored on a ground out by Ponce.
In the top of the seventh, Junior Sosa reached on a fielding error by Raul Mondesi. Josh Bell drove the first from reliever Alec Mills over the party deck in right field for a 4-3 lead. It was Bell's sixth home run this season and gives the outfielder a league-leading 34 runs batted in.
Tom Harlan (2-0) followed Creasy with four shutout innings of relief, facing just one over the minimum. Mill (1-2) was charged with a blown save and took the loss in the nightcap.
The Power and Legends conclude this series on Sunday afternoon. Tyler Glasnow and Aroni Nina are the slated starters for West Virginia and Lexington, respectively, with a 1:35 first pitch. After a three games series in Hickory, the Power return to Appalachian Power Park on April 16 to host Lexington for a four-game homestand.
