Greenville Drive News Release
Saturday night's game at Fluor Field saw a near hourlong rain delay and was undecided until the very last batter. David Chester was tired of waiting around and decided to send the fans home happy, as his walk-off homer gave the Greenville Drive (12-23) a 6-5 victory over the Augusta GreenJackets (19-15) for their second consecutive win.
With the game tied up in the ninth and one out, Chester blasted a 1-1 pitch from Augusta's Derek Law (0-2) over the Green Monster in left to set off a massive celebration at home plate.
The home run marks the third consecutive game in which Chester has left the park, during which time he has also driven in nine runs. Chester now has seven home runs on the year with 28 RBIs. He also doubled twice and walked once to cap a 3-4 night at the plate with four RBIs.
The Drive jumped out to an early 4-1 lead before the top of the fourth. However, heavy storm clouds rolled through the park and delayed the ballgame for 57 minutes, knocking both starting pitchers, Greenville's Frank Montas and Augusta's Joe Biagini -- out of the ball game after three innings of work.
Montas would pitch three solid innings with six strikeouts before the delay ended his night.
Getting the win in Saturday's victory was Madison Younginer (2-0), who came in at the beginning of the eighth inning. Younginer retired all six batters he faced and punched out five of them.
Helping the Drive out at the plate also was center fielder Cody Koback, who picked up two singles, an RBI and scored two runs in Saturday night's contest.
Both left fielder Drew Turocy and second baseman Mookie Betts extended their respective hitting streaks to seven games each.
Tim Roberson would play in his first game of the season, and in his second at-bat, he roped an RBI double to right field. Right fielder Aneury Tavarez also would pick up a double of his own.
Matt Duffy led the way at the plate for the GreenJackets, as he went 3-5, including a pair of solo homers.
The series will wrap up on Sunday as the Drive go for the series win. Sunday's game is "Komen Night at the Drive" as the team will don pink jerseys for breast cancer awareness. RHP Pat Light (1-2, 5.09) gets the nod for the Drive, while Augusta sends RHP Jose Reyes (1-3, 7.56) to the mound.
