Power Rally Past Crawdads in Front of 3,393 Fans

The West Virginia Power scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings and beat the Hickory Crawdads 5-3 Saturday night at L.P. Frans Stadium.

Trailing 2-1, the Power tallied twice in the fifth inning on an RBI double by RF Lorenzo Cain and a sacrifice fly ball from catcher Angel Salome. The Power upped the lead with single runs in the sixth and seventh. In the sixth, Power SS Scotty McKnight singled in a run with two outs. In the seventh, Cain scored on Salome's sacrifice fly ball.

The Crawdads totaled three straight hits to begin the eighth inning. Hickory CF Andrew McCutchen singled, 1B Mike Carlin doubled, and RF Brad Corley singled in McCutchen. Trailing 5-3, the ‘Dads had runners on the corners and nobody out but reliever Dane Renkert came on to get back-to-back strikeouts and a slow ground ball to first base that ended the inning.

Renkert got two outs in the ninth inning before walking 3B Tony Mansolino. With the tying run at the plate and two outs in the final frame, Renkert got McCutchen to ground out to end the game. Renkert saved his fourth game of the year. Matt Kretzschmar (1-2) allowed two runs on five hits while walking five and striking out three to earn the win. Kyle Pearson (3-2) allowed three runs on five hits to take the loss.

Corley had two hits and drove in two for the Crawdads. West Virginia CF Darren Ford reached base three times and scored twice.

The final game of the three game series is at 6pm Sunday. Hickory right hander Luis Valdez faces Power righty Kevin Roberts.
