(Eastlake, OH)--Frank Herrmann tossed six shutout innings and shortstop Niuman Romero slugged his first home run of the season on Saturday, as the Captains shut out the Lakewood BlueClaws 3-0 at Classic Park.

The Captains (27-35) pitched a shutout for the first time since a 2-0 whitewash against Hickory in the season opener on April 6th.

Herrmann (2-2) pitched the first six innings to earn his second win of the season. He retired the first nine batters of the game, before hitting Julian Williams to lead off the fourth. He allowed two hits and a walk before leaving after the sixth.

Cody Bunkelman backed Herrmann with two perfect innings and Matt Davis closed the game with a scoreless ninth for his 15th save.

Romero hit a two-run homer off all-star righthander Carlos Carrasco (4-4) in the third inning to give the Captains a 2-0 lead. Fernando Pacheco singled before Romero came to the plate. The homer was Romero's first of the season.

The Captains made it 3-0 in the sixth when P.J. Hiser scored on a wild pitch by Carrasco.

In the rubber game of the three-game series on Sunday, the Captains will send RHP Albert Vargas to the mound against Lakewood lefty Josh Outman. Game time is 2:05 p.m. For tickets, call (440) 954-WINS.
