
Power Holds off Lexington

(Lexington, KY- April 18, 2015)- The West Virginia Power held off the Lexington Legends 8-6 on Saturday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The Power scored three in the third, added five in the sixth and held off a late five-run rally to beat the Legends for the second time in three nights.
West Virginia loaded the bases in the third inning on an infield single by Jeff Roy and walks to Jordan Luplow and Taylor Gushue. With two outs, Michael Suchy reached on an error by Lexington second baseman Carlos Garcia, allowing both Roy and Luplow to score. Chase Simpson followed with a single to bring in Gushue and stake the Power to a 3-0 advantage.
Austin Coley was the benefactor of the support and faced the minimum in four of his five innings pitched. The Legends sent five batters to the plate in the fourth inning, bringing home their first run on a sacrifice fly.
In the sixth, the Power sent nine batters to the plate, scoring five runs on five hits, including a run-scoring single from Jerrick Suiter, a sac fly by Roy, a two-run double by Tito Polo and an RBI single from Luplow, giving West Virginia an 8-1 lead after five and a half.
The Legends rallied against the Power bullpen, scoring once in the eighth and getting within two in the ninth on a grand slam by Corey Toups. Nick Neumann replaced Eric Dorsch in the ninth, allowed a pair of base hits, but recorded the final three outs to save the win for the Power.
Coley (2-0) earned with win while Zach Lovvorn (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing the first three Power runs, all of which were unearned. Neumann's ninth inning work notched the right-hander his second save. Polo and Suiter had three hits each and five different players drove in at least one run.
West Virginia and Lexington close this four game set on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 pm. John sever will make his second start of the season for the Power and will be opposed by the Legends' Pedro Fernandez. West Virginia will play three games in Kannapolis before returning to Charleston on April 23.
