Asheville Tourists News Release

Charleston, WV--Wednesday night was a different chapter in the same story for the Asheville Tourists and their second half of the 2013 season. Asheville was unable to do much of anything against West Virginia as the Northern division leaders pounded the Tourists 7-1 at Appalachian Power Park.

Jayson Aquino ran into trouble in the bottom of the second inning where the home team rallied for three runs. Jimmy Rider led off the scoring with a two-run double down the third base line and he came home on a Max Moroff double. Jordan Steranka led off the bottom of the third with a Home Run to left-center and the Power held a 4-0 lead.

Asheville had an opportunity to score in the third inning when they loaded the bases with just one out, but Rosell Herrera popped out and Francisco Sosa grounded out to end the threat. The game remained 7-0 until the Power plated three more in the bottom of the seventh. Walker Gourley was hit by a pitch with the babes loaded and Jonathan Schwind contributed with a two- run single.

The Tourists plated their lone run in the eighth inning on a Sosa solo Home Run. Sosa tied Derek Jones with the team lead in homers (19) with the blast. Asheville finished 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base.

Aquino dropped to 0-8 on the season, but the run support for the Tourists lefty has been non- existent. In Aquino's last nine starts, Asheville has scored a grand total of just 16 runs. This was the eighth time in the month of August the Tourists have scored less than two runs in a game.
