HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Lakewood BlueClaws (28-37/54-78) fell behind in the first, and couldn't recover in the 4-2 loss to the Hagerstown Suns (40-25/78-54) Wednesday night at Municipal Stadium. The loss snapped Lakewood's four game winning streak and put the series at 14-7 in favor of Hagerstown.

The Suns strived to return the favor to the BlueClaws from the three-run first inning the night before. Isaac Ballou began rally in the first with a single and Tony Renda followed and was hit by a Ramon Oviedo curveball to put the first two on with nobody out.

Shawn Pleffner stepped in and delivered a single that plated Ballou from second and Wander Ramos duplicated the effort with another RBI single that made it 2-0 with nobody out. Oviedo regrouped and struck out the next two hitters and induced a fly out to center to wrap up the inning.

Dakota Bacus was acquired from the Athletics in a trade last week, and made his first appearance for the Suns against the Claws. The righty retired the first two hitters he faced, but walked the next two in the frame and eventually got out of it unscathed.

Bacus pitched a perfect second and third, walked two more in the fourth but did not give up a hit until Chace Numata stepped up to lead off the fifth. The catcher singled to left center and picked up the first Lakewood hit of the night. Numata advanced to second on a wild pitch, but was left stranded in scoring position to wrap up the inning.

Oviedo (1-4) made it through four innings for the Claws before Geoff Broussard took over in the fifth. With Lakewood already down 2-0, the righty tried to keep the Suns at bay, but could not.

Renda greeted him with a single and with one out he scored on Ramos' double to right and made it 3-0. Next was Mike McQuillan who connected on a single that scored Ramos and made it 4-0 in favor of the home team.

Bacus (1-0) went six innings in his first start before the Suns dipped into the bullpen and went to Justin Thomas. The southpaw came out and pounded the strike zone, K-ing four of the first six men he faced.

In the eighth, Angelo Mora hit a one out single and remained on base with two down. Willie Carmona was next and crushed a homer over the wall in left that plated Mora and pulled the Claws to within two at 4-2.

In the ninth, it was Bryan Harper on to close it out for Hagerstown. Pinch hitter Jiandido Tromp struck out against the lefty, and Larry Greene, Jr. walked with one down. Carlos Tocci was no match and struck out swinging for the second out of the inning.

Greene, Jr. moved to second on defensive indifference with Numata at the plate, but it did not matter as the catcher grounded out to second to end the game. With his scoreless inning, Harper picked up his first save of the season.
