Power Get past Lakewood 4-2

(Lakewood Township, NJ- May 25, 2015)- The West Virginia Power edged the Lakewood BlueClaws 4-2 on Monday at FirstEnergy Park. The Power used a two-out, three-run rally in the sixth to take the series opener and win their fourth straight game.
The BlueClaws struck first with a run off Power starter Stephen Tarpley. The left-hander, acquired by Pittsburgh during the off-season in a trade with Baltimore, allowed one hit in each of his first two innings of work. In the bottom of the third, Lakewood loaded the bases with two outs. A Tarpley wild pitch allowed Cord Sandberg to score and put the BlueClaws ahead 1-0.
Josh Taylor made the start for Lakewood and allowed three hits over five innings. In the sixth with two outs, Taylor Gushue singled and Michael Suchy walked. Tito Polo singled in Gushue to tie the game at one. After a Chase walk loaded the bases, Jerrick Suiter drove in Suchy and Polo to give West Virginia a 3-1 lead.
Lakewood got within one with a run in the bottom of the eighth when Carlos Tocci scored on a groundout, but West Virginia added an insurance run in the top of the ninth to close the scoring. Simpson doubled, advanced on a groundout and scoring on a single by Elvis Escobar to give the Power a 4-2 lead.
Tarpley (1-0) pitched five innings in his season debut, striking out three and walking two. Jake Burnette pitched three innings for his third hold. Nick Neumann worked a perfect ninth for his sixth save. Taylor (2-4) allowed three runs on five hits over five and two-thirds innings in the loss.
The Power have won four straight games for the first time this season.
West Virginia and Lakewood meet for game two of this series on Tuesday evening at 6:35 pm. Alex McRae will start for the Power against Lakewood's Tyler Viza.
