Greenville Drive News Release
Augusta, GA - The Greenville Drive (26-18) got back on track in Monday's series opener against the Augusta GreenJackets (21-22), collecting 12 hits in a 5-3 win in the first meeting between the two teams since the season's opening weekend.
The Drive never trailed in the game, as they scored three times in the top of the first against Matt Gage (2-2). Mauricio Dubon began the game with a single, moved to second on Derek Miller's walk and scored on Jordan Procyshen's RBI single to left. After a double steal, an Augusta error on Nick Longhi's ground ball brought home another run, and Mike Meyers lifted a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-0.
Augusta got on the board in the bottom half on an RBI single by Jonah Arenado, but the Drive got that run right back in the top of the second, when Dubon continued his big day with an RBI single to score Joseph Monge, who doubled with one out.
Longhi drove home his second run of the night in the top of the fifth when his sacrifice fly scored Miller, who singled to begin the frame.
Cristian Paulino's inside-the-park home run in the sixth inning plated two runs for Augusta and cut the lead to the eventual final score.
Jalen Beeks (4-1) picked up the win after allowing three runs in six innings, and Williams Jerez struck out four over the final three innings to pick up his third save.
Dubon led the Greenville offense with a 4-5 night, while Miller, Monge and Procyshen added two hits apiece. Johneshwy Fargas was the lone Augusta player with a two-hit night.
Game two of the three-game series begins at 7:05 PM on Tuesday in Augusta. RH Jeffry Fernandez (0-4, 4.50) takes the mound for the Drive in search of his first win of the season, and LH Mark Reyes (1-2, 1.71) is the scheduled starter for the GreenJackets.
