Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

CHARLESTON, WV - The Lakewood BlueClaws had the lead with the bullpen set up to close things out, but again, in a second half trend, the 'pen allowed big innings to get in the way in an 8-4 loss on Monday night to the West Virginia Power.

In a sea-saw battle the BlueClaws (6-6) got on the board first in the top of the third inning as Vladimir De Los Santos doubled to lead off the inning. He was sacrificed to third before a Harold Garcia sacrifice fly brought him in. However, the Power (8-3) struck right back in the third with a run of their own to tie the game at one.

The score would stay 1-1 until an active sixth for both teams. The BlueClaws batted first and tallied three to take a 4-1 lead. In the inning, Anthony Gose led things off with a single and the Travis d'Arnaud walked. Jim Murphy also singled, scoring Gose before Jeremy Hamilton reached on an error. With the bases loaded, Zach Collier hit a single, scoring two more to make it a 4-1 game.

Jason Knapp was in line for the win as he started the game and went five innings, allowing one earned run and striking out five. Knapp has not won since May 2nd, despite a string of fantastic starts, and he would not get a win today.

Ryan Bergh (3-4) came on in the sixth with a three-run lead and it was 5-4 by innings end. Bergh got the first out before a runner reached but then allowed five straight hits on a triple, two singles and two doubles, as four of the five scored to make it a 5-4 game.

With a 5-4 lead, Rob Roth came into the ballgame and also had a tough time. He allowed two walks and singles by Quincy Latimore, Tony Sanchez and Calvin Anderson. All told, three runs came in to score and it became an 8-4 ballgame.

Quniton Miller, from Medford, NJ, started and went five innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs. He gets a no decision while Casey Erickson (4-3) gets the win as he pitched one inning, coming on in the sixth and Duke Welker gets the save as he went three innings and did not allow a run.

With a single, Hamilton extends his league-long on- base streak to 29 games. The BlueClaws are now 0-4 in their attempts to get to 18 games above .500.

The BlueClaws and Power will wrap up their four- game series with the Power leading 2-1 on Tuesday at 7:05 pm. The BlueClaws will send Jesus Sanchez (3-5) to the mound and he will be opposed by righty Rafael de los Santos (0-1).
