Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Bowling Green, KY - In a game that tipped more times than a see-saw in the late innings, the Bowling Green Hot Rods pick up a 4-3 win over the Augusta GreenJackets on an Isaias Velasquez eighth inning RBI single.
Augusta led 2-0 through two and a half innings before the Hot Rods cracked into the run column. With Juan Perez running from first with two outs, Matt Klimas blooped a single into shallow right-center that was bobbled by Tim Beckham, allowing Perez to score from first on the error. Josh Mazzola's double off the fence in right-center pushed the lead to two runs in the third.
Mike McCormick greeted Augusta starter Eric Stolp with a solo home run to deep left field in the third inning to cut the lead in half. Beckham singled home a run in the fifth off Stolp to tie the game at two.
Bowling Green claimed their first lead of the game in the seventh against the Augusta bullpen. Mitch Lively allowed a single and a walk to open the inning, and then threw a wild pitch to move the runners into scoring position. Chance Corgan entered and allowed a sacrifice fly by Robi Estrada to give the Rods a 3-2 lead.
Credit good heads-up baserunning for pushing the game back to a 3-3 tie. With two runners on and Ehire Adrianza at the plate, the entire Bowling Green infield came to the mound to visit pitcher Josh Satow. Realizing no one had called time, Josh Mazzola moved from second to third with the entire infield gathered at the mound. Adrianza then hit the game-tying sacrifice fly to bring the game to three-all before Velasquez's one-out single in the eighth gave the Hot Rods the lead.
With the tying run at first with two outs, Satow got Charlie Culberson to fly out to end the game. Though credited with the blown save, Satow (2-0) walked one and struck out two through two innings of relief to get the win. The only run charged against him was unearned.
Corgan (3-3) takes the loss after allowing one unearned run in 1.1 innings of relief on two hits with two strikeouts. Eric Stolp allowed two runs on six hits, taking the no-decision in his fourth start of the year.
Tuesday's game will decide whether or not the GreenJackets take three of four or the Hot Rods can earn the series split. Kyle Nicholson (4-7, 3.49) takes the ball for the GreenJackets while Nick Barnese (3-1, 1.29) faces Augusta for the first time this season. First pitch will come at 8:05 p.m. and will be broadcast on WRDW AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
The GreenJackets return home from an eight-game road trip to face the West Virginia Power on Monday July 13th. First pitch comes at 7:05 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on WRDW AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
