POWER REPLAY: West Virginia won its fourth straight by knocking off Delmarva 6-2 on Sunday afternoon. The Power received six solid innings from Eliecer Navarro, who notched the win to move to 5-0 this season. West Virginia's offense was supplied in large part by Andy Vasquez, who had two hits including a two-run triple in the fifth inning.
END OF THE ROAD: The Power will finish the 2011 season this afternoon. A win today will put West Virginia at an even .500 winning percentage thanks to a late winning streak of five games to match their longest of the season. It would also mark the first five game sweep of a SAL opponent in club Power history.
MAGGI THE MARAUDER: Drew Maggi was promoted to Bradenton on Saturday afternoon. The middle infielder hit .267 over 125 games for the Power, including a .319 clip during August that raised his average 21 points. Maggi started 116 games at short and hit in the leadoff spot 114 times. Walker Gourley was promoted from State College to take Maggi's spot on the roster.
ALMOST NEARLY NOTHING: On Friday night, West Virginia came within one out of the second no-hitter during the Pittsburgh Pirates affiliation. The last Power no-no was on July 27, 2009 as Hunter Strickland and Diego Moreno combined to hold the Charleston RiverDogs hitless in a 4-0 win at Appalachian Power Park.
BRING ON THE BIRDS: Sunday afternoon's Power win evened the all-time series between West Virginia and Delmarva. The Shorebirds began this season with a 40-35 lead, but the Power have taken ten of 15 games this season to close that gap. West Virginia clubs have gone 16-23 at Arthur W. Purdue Stadium since 2005.
DONE AT HOME: The Power concluded their 2011 home schedule on Tuesday with a loss to Lexington. The Power finished with winning record at home for the first time since 2008 while still affiliated with Milwaukee, holding a 34-33 record at home this season. West Virginia went 33-34 in 2009 during their first year as a Pirates affiliate, and had a 34-35 mark last season.
FULL THROTTLE: One day after reaching on a season-high 19 hits, West Virginia amassed the most runs they have scored in any game since the affiliation with Pittsburgh began in 2009. The Power's 17 run outburst last Monday was the most by the club since August 8, 2008 against Hickory while still affiliated with Milwaukee. West Virginia beat the Crawdads 17-1 that day.
RECORD HIGH OF ZEROS: West Virginia pitchers worked their 13th shutout of the season on Thursday to extend their club record. The Power worked their 11th shutout of the season on August 11, surpassing the previous season high of 10 combined shutouts by the 2006 club when the Power were still affiliated with Milwaukee. Since the association with the Pirates began in 2009, West Virginia has pitched 28 shutouts over nearly three full seasons compared to 29 during the four-year Brewer stint.
POWER POINTS: Andy Vasquez has five home runs this season, and each of them have been hit at home... Chase Lyles saw his nine-game hitting streak stooped with an 0-4 Sunday... Eliecer Navarro is 4-0 as a member of the starting rotation this season... 2010 Power All-Star Ramon Cabrera is going to win the Florida State League batting title, batting .343 into the final day of the season.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh lost 6-3 to the Cubs at Wrigley... Indianapolis beat Louisville 5-3... Altoona edged Richmond 1-0 in 10 innings... Bradenton walked off with a 4-3, 10 inning win over Charlotte... State College lost 5-2 to Williamsport in eight innings...
ON THE AIR: All 140 West Virginia Power games can be heard on ESPN 104.5 FM and 1490 AM in Charleston, WV and online at milb.com.
