LAST NIGHT: West Virginia lost 3-2 at Delmarva. The Power and Shorebirds were scoreless after five innings when the game went to a 38 minute rain delay. After the delay, West Virginia jumped on the Delmarva bullpen as Jarek Cunningham triple in the first at bat when play resumed, and scored on a David Rubinstein base hit. The Power added a run in the eighth, but the Shorebirds tagged Gabriel Alvarado with three runs on five hits in the home half of the inning to rally for the win.

STILL STREAKING PART TWO: Jarek Cunningham's triple last night extended his current hitting streak to ten games. The infielder is batting .311 during this streak, with 14 hits in 45 at bats. From May 31 though June 18, Cunningham had an 18 game streak, which had until recently been the longest in the league this year. Lakewood's Jiwan James is currently on a 23 game hitting streak of this own.

HELLO AGAIN: The Pirates promoted Nathan Baker to Bradenton on Wednesday and filled the open Power roster spot by transferring Melkin Laureano back to West Virginia. Laureano began the year with the Power, going 2-3 with a 2.83 ERA over ten outings, including five starts, and was promoted to Bradenton on May 24. During his stint in the Florida State League, the right-hander went 3-1 with a 3.82 earned run average.

TOUGH TIMES ON THE PENINSULA: West Virginia trails 39-30 in the all-time series against Delmarva, including an 8-21 record in Salisbury, Maryland. The Power still lead the series at Appalachian Power Park 22-18, where this match-up continues from August 2 though 5.

WALK THIS WAY: Evan Chambers has walked 68 times this year to lead the South Atlantic League. Chambers ranks fourth across all of Minor League Baseball, trailing only Kila Ki'aihue of Omaha (78), Conner Crumbliss of Kane County (76), and Vincent Belnome from Lake Elsinore (70). Chambers has not walked, however, his last five games after having taken a free pass in six straight from July 5 through 10.

THE K-MAN: Kyle McPherson struck out nine batters over six innings on Friday. McPherson has 103 strikeouts this season, tops among pitchers in the SAL. The right-hander surpassed Brandon Moore with his fifth strikeout last night. Moore began the year with Savannah and struck out 98, but has been promoted to St. Lucie. McPherson is tied for fifth amongst all Minor League players with 25 July strikeouts.

Nathan Baker was honored by the South Atlantic League as the Pitcher of the Week this past Monday. He was the first Power player to win an weekly award this season, and will make his Florida State League debut tonight against Clearwater after a promotion on Wednesday...
