Hagerstown Suns News Release

Nationals southpaw Scott Olsen made a rehab start for the Hagerstown Suns on Saturday, leading the team to a 10-3 victory over the Rome Braves in front of a sellout crowd.

Olsen, on the MLB DL since May 23rd, pitched four innings for the Suns and allowed just one run. The lefty fanned four and allowed just two hits without giving up a walk.

The lone run allowed by Olsen came in the top of the fourth inning. Olsen hit Rome centerfielder Todd Cunningham in the shoulder to lead off the inning. Cunningham then stole second base, advanced to third on a fly-out to right field and scored on a wild pitch from Olsen.

The run in the fourth for the Braves evened the score at 1-1, as the Suns had struck for a run in the bottom of the third inning on a walk and two hits against Rome starter Chris Masters (1-5).

Hagerstown took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Left fielder JP Ramirez led off with a walk and Sandy Leon followed with a single. Three batters later, second baseman Jeff Kobernus doubled home Ramirez and shortstop Justino Cuevas had a two-run single to give the Suns a 4-1 lead.

Hagerstown never relinquished the advantage, adding runs in the fifth and seventh innings after Rome scored twice in the top of the fifth off Suns reliever Paul Applebee (2-2).

Leading 6-3 going into the bottom of the eighth, Hagerstown exploded for four runs. Centerfielder Eury Perez reached on an error, stole second and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Cuevas.

With two outs, third baseman Stephen King singled, Justin Bloxom was then hit by a pitch and Destin Hood hit a towering three-run home run to right-center field, extending the Suns lead to 10-3. The homer was Hood's fourth of the season.

Applebee got the win for the Suns with four innings of work. The lefthander allowed two runs on five hits while striking out two.

Masters took the loss for Rome after allowing five runs in his five innings of work.

Reliever Dean Weaver pitched a scoreless ninth inning for Hagerstown.

The Suns and Braves will play the finale of their five-game series on Sunday at 2:05 pm. The teams have each won two of the first four contests in the series.
