
Power Even Weekend Series with 9-4 Victory

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The High Point Rockers dropped a 9-4 decision at West Virginia on Saturday night at Appalachian Power Park. The Rockers managed just four hits with Cesar Trejo collecting two of them. Pinch-hitter Joe Johnson and third baseman Giovanny Alfonzo had the other base hits for the Rockers.
High Point starter Bryce Hensley yielded three runs to the Power in the bottom of the first using a walk, a single, a double and a throwing error to plate all three runs.
The Rockers tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth. Edwin Arroyo led off the frame by reaching on an error before Randy Norris walked and Alfonzo singled to right to load the bases. J.R. DiSarcina grounded out to third, scoring Arroyo and moving Norris to third. Cesar Trejo then doubled to left field scoring both Norris and DiSarcina.
The Power took the lead for good with a four-run fifth inning on a walk, four singles and a double to go ahead 7-3.
Hensley departed with one out in the fifth with Ryan Chaffee getting the Rockers out of the inning without yielding any additional damage.
West Virginia scored twice in the seventh for a 9-3 lead. Yovan Gonzalez hit a home run and the Power added a run on a play where the Rockers committed two errors on the same play.
In the ninth, the Rockers loaded the bases when C.J. Farias, Arroyo and Norris all drew walks. Alfonzo drove in a run with an infield ground out but the game ended when Logan Moore hit a hard line drive back to the mound where reliever Hunter Cervenka made the grab then tossed to first to double off the runner.
Hensley (1-1) gave up seven runs, all earned, and 11 hits in his 4.1 innings worked. West Virginia's Elih Villanueva improved to 2-1 by scattering four hits over seven innings while walking three and fanning four.
The Rockers and Power will play the rubber match of the three-game series on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. at Appalachian Power Park. Following an off day on Monday, the Rockers open a six-game homestand on Tuesday, June 15 against the Lexington Legends at 7:05 p.m. at Truist Point.
