CHARLESTON, W.VA. - Ricky Knapp took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, while the High Point Rockers' bats exploded early to defeat the West Virginia Power 7-2 on Friday night at Appalachian Power Park.

Scattering only three walks over the first five innings, Knapp recorded two outs in the sixth when the Power sent up pinch-hitter Carson McCurdy, who had begun his professional career with an 0-for-20 skid. McCurdy became the unlikely first hit of the game for West Virginia when he connected on a single to end the no-hit bid. In total, Knapp (2-1) went six innings, surrendering no runs on one hit, while walking three and striking out four.

David Kubiak (0-1), one of the Atlantic League's most successful pitchers in 2019, got the start for the Power (5-6), but instantly found himself in trouble. After Cesar Trejo singled on the first pitch of the game, James McOwen would drive him in for a 1-0 Rockers lead. Later in the inning with two runners on base, Stuart Levy drove a Kubiak fastball over the left field wall for his second home run of the game, making it 4-0. The Rockers (8-4) would tack on single runs in the third, sixth and eighth innings.

The Power finally got on the board in the seventh inning on a two-run single by Teodoro Martinez. Both runs (charged to Kyle Halbohn) were unearned as they came after Giovanny Alfonzo booted a ground ball earlier in the inning.

The ball game was delayed one hour and nine minutes prior to first pitch due to strong rains in the Charleston area in the hours leading up to the game. The 7:05 scheduled game began at 8:14 and was completed in a tidy two hours and fifty-five minutes.

The Rockers and Power continue their weekend series Saturday at 7:05 with lefty Bryce Hensley getting the ball for High Point. Hensley was strong in his first start of 2021 and had three stellar innings of work last Sunday (6/6) wiped out by rain.
