(Lakewood Township, NJ)- The West Virginia Power edged the Lakewood BlueClaws 3-1 Friday night at FirstEnergy Park. The Power scored twice early and once late to beat the BlueClaws for the 19th time this season in 22 chances.

West Virginia took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first against Lakewood's Ryan Demmin. Chris Diaz reached on an error and moved to second on a single by Dilson Herrera. With two down and both runners in scoring position, Eric Wood singled to center to drive in the pair for the early edge.

In the home half of the inning, Power starter Jason Creasy walked Brian Pointer. After a strikeout and a single by Willie Carmona, Art Charles singled in Pointer to halve the deficit.

Each starter settled in from the second inning on. West Virginia sent the minimum to the plate against Demmin, who was just signed by the Phillies from the Normal Cornbelters in the Frontier League, in the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings. Creasy pitched five full innings, allowing just two more hits along the way and stranded the bases loaded in the fifth.

Lakewood loaded the bases again West Virginia reliever Ryan Hafner in the seventh, but could not generate any run support. The BlueClaws put the tying and go-ahead runners on in the eighth against Bryton Trepagnier, but stranded the pair.

In the top of the ninth, the Power added an insurance run off Lakewood reliever Lee Ridenhour. Josh Bell was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Jordan Steranka attempted a sacrifice bunt, but Ridenhour's throw to first skipped past the base and down the right field line, allowing Bell to score and giving West Virginia a 3-1 lead.

Creasy (4-3) earned his second win of the month, both of which have come against the BlueClaws. Demmin (0-1) took the loss despite only allowing the two unearnedruns over eight innings of work. while striking out nine. Hafner and Trepagnier each earned a hold before Jhondaniel Medina struck out the side in the ninth for his seventh save.
