Brinson Named Rangers MiLB Defender of the Month

HICKORY, NC - Hickory Crawdads All-Star OF Lewis Brinson has been named the Texas Rangers Minor League Defender of the Month for the month of July, becoming the 5th different Crawdad to win a monthly award in 2013. RHP C.J. Edwards (Pitcher of the Month: April), LHP Alexander Claudio (Reliever of the Month: May) LHP Luis Parra (Pitcher of the Month: May & June) and INF Ryan Rua (Player of the Month: May & June), have also been honored this season, giving the 'Dads 7 separate monthly awards.

Brinson, 19, started 24 games in center field for Hickory in the month of July. The Florida native committed just 2 errors in 65 total chances in the outfield, while also recording a pair of outfield assists. Brinson has totaled 8 outfield assists overall, 2nd-most on the Crawdads. Brinson was recently voted the top defensive outfielder in the South Atlantic League in Baseball America's "Best Tools" survey. At the plate, Brinson is batting .232 (86-371) with 54 runs, 13 doubles, 2 triples, 19 home runs, 44 RBI, and 18 stolen bases in 101 games with Hickory. Since returning from the disabled list on Tuesday, he has gone 4-for-10 with 5 runs, 2 home runs, 5 RBI, 4 walks, and a stolen base in 3 games.
