Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

FRISCO, Texas - Omar Poveda tossed a complete game Friday night as Frisco knocked off Corpus Christi 4-1 in the series finale at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

The Hooks finished their road schedule with a 27-44 record. The RoughRiders, who head to the PermianBasin for a decisive three-game series, trail Midland by one game in the Texas League South second-half race.

Marcus Lemon got off to a quick start for Frisco, opening the first with a triple to right field. Renny Osuna then recorded his seventh double of the season, putting the RoughRiders up 1-0.

Hooks starter Kenny Baugh issued a walk to Chad Tracy and settled down, using a double play and strikeout to end the frame.

Frisco (38-29, 71-66) added another run in the third. Back-to-back singles by Guilder Rodriguez and Lemon began the rally. Osuna laid down a sacrifice bunt and Tracy gave the 'Riders a two-run advantage with a fly ball to centerfield.

Poveda (11-5) faced three over the minimum through the first five innings. He yielded just five hits overall and struck out seven without walking a batter. Now 3-1 against the Hooks this season, Poveda tossed 73 of his 106 pitches for strikes.

Corpus Christi (29-38, 60-77) benefited from what was charged an unearned run in the sixth. Collin DeLome stroked a one-out double to right field and came around to score on a sharply-struck grounder off the bat of Felix Molina. The ball took a bad hop past Tracy at first base and continued into right field. DeLome has now hit safely in five consecutive games.

The RoughRiders answered in the home half. With runners at the corners and one away, Steven Murphy hit Frisco's second sacrifice fly of the night for 3-1 lead.

Baugh (4-4) was touched for six hits and two walks over six innings. He threw 93 pitches, fanning three.

Danny Meszaros worked around a single and struck out a batter for the Hooks in the seventh. Evan Englebrook allowed Frisco's fourth run in the eighth. Tracy, who opened the frame with double to left, advanced to third on a ground out and scored via a wild pitch. Despite the run, Corpus Christi's bullpen has a 2.17 ERA over its last seven games.

The Hooks begin their final series Saturday night at Whataburger Field for the first of three against San Antonio. The Missions' Will Inman (6-4) takes on Sergio Perez (10-11). The first 2,000 fans through the gates receive a Hooks Replica Road Jersey thanks to CITGO.
