Frisco RoughRiders News Release

The RoughRiders stay in the playoff hunt, defeating Corpus Christi 4-1 on Friday in front of a sold out crowd at Dr Pepper Ballpark

The RoughRiders, led by a complete game effort by Frisco starter Omar Poveda, defeated Corpus Christi on Friday night 4-1 in the regular season finale at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Poveda earned his 11th win on the season, a team-best. With the win, Frisco is now one game behind the RockHounds for first place in the South Division, entering the final series of the season in Midland.

The ‘Riders started the scoring in the first frame when Marcus Lemon led off the game with a triple and scored on Renny Osuna's RBI double. Frisco made the score 2-0 in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Chad Tracy to score Guilder Rodriguez. The Hooks found the scoreboard in the sixth to cut Frisco's lead in half at 2-1, but the RoughRiders answered in the bottom of the sixth when Dustin Majewski scored on sacrifice fly by Steve Murphy. In the eighth inning, Chad Tracy doubled and scored on a wild pitch to give Frisco the 4-1 victory.

Poveda allowed just one run on five hits over nine frames, striking out seven and not walking a batter. It was the second complete game on the season for Poveda who through 69% strikes on the night. Hooks' starter Kenny Baugh (4-4) took the loss, allowing three runs over six innings.

Lemon led the RoughRiders with a game-best three hits, including his fifth triple on the season. Tracy reached base three times and pushed his team-leading RBI total to 107, which is also good for second in the Texas League. Majewski scored a run, but snapped his hit streak at 10 games.

Frisco, now just one game out of first place, will travel to Midland for the remaining three games of the regular season. The RoughRiders need to sweep the series because the RockHounds hold the tie-breaker if both squads finish with identical records. If Frisco is able to sweep the RockHounds then there will be playoff baseball at Dr Pepper Ballpark next Friday. Stay tuned to ridersbaseball.com for all postseason information.
